To mark the 10th anniversary edition of FIBER x The Rest is Noise, Muziekgebouw and FIBER Festival are proud to host the Dutch premiere of FIRST LIGHT – a striking audiovisual performance by internationally renowned computer music artist Robert Henke.
For this audiovisual surround-sound performance, Henke drew inspiration from ‘first light’ – the astronomical term for the very first time a new telescope is pointed at the sky to take an image. Henke captures the electric anticipation leading up to that moment. He creates the work from within the auditorium, interactively, just like a DJ in a club. This is the only performance in the Netherlands, directly following the world premiere at The Barbican in London.
Robert Henke created similar performances with the Lumière concert series, the multi-channel concert Dust, and select Monolake Live Surround performances. He dedicated FIRST LIGHT to the female astronomers, astrophysicists, engineers, computer scientists and mathematicians who have contributed so much to our understanding of the universe, yet rarely received the recognition they deserved.
FIBER x The Rest is Noise is a concert series that has grown into a beloved New Year’s tradition, featuring ground-breaking audiovisual performances by visionary artists.
