Pulitzer Prize winner Shaw in a wonderfully diverse programme

Caroline Shaw is one of the world’s most popular and most frequently performed contemporary composers. She co-wrote Rosalía’s latest album, the definitive pop album of 2025. But she is also a singer and violinist.

Tonight, Shaw joins her friends in the virtuoso Attacca Quartet as the second viola player in Felix Mendelssohn’s delightful String Quintet No. 2. But above all, her own music is on the programme. Shaw and the Attacca Quartet won joint Grammy Awards for their albums Orange and Evergreen. The versatile quartet recently delivered an impressive performance at the String Quartet Biennale Amsterdam at the Muziekgebouw.

Singing, playing and composing go hand in hand for Caroline Shaw. She was awarded the Pulitzer Prize – becoming the youngest winner ever – for one of her first compositions, Partita for 8 Voices, written for her own vocal ensemble Roomful of Teeth (which was also a huge success at the Muziekgebouw). Included in Shaw’s performance tonight is the stunning And So, a song she originally wrote for mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter.
