The start of ticket sales for the 11th Cello Biënnale Amsterdam will be marked in a very special way this year: with The Great 18+ Cello Orchestra. This one-off project takes its inspiration from the Biënnale’s established Hello Cello Orchestra, but is specifically designed for 100 adult cellists from all over the Netherlands. Under the inspiring direction of cellist Joël Siepmann, they will share the stage with the cello ensemble Metrocelli.
The concert will be kicked off by Cello Collectief, a 24-member cello ensemble from Utrecht. Hungarian cellist Ildikó Szabó and French-Armenian cellist Astrig Siranossian will present a sneak peek of their concert during the upcoming Cello Biënnale in November 2026. Together with the NBE, they will perform a programme in which their musical roots shine through in both old and new music.
This concert is part of the Kick-Off of the 11th Cello Biënnale.
The 11th Cello Biennale Amsterdam is coming up, from 29 October to 7 November 2026. The start for this edition is this Big 18+ Cello Orchestra. In the evening, top cellist Ivan Karizna, a regular guest of the Cello Biennale, will present a French program, featuring Ravel’s Piano Trio at its center.
