Two seemingly clashing worlds converge

Two seemingly clashing worlds converge under the baton of renowned choral conductor Grete Pedersen. This programme explores transience and transition, blending Bach’s monumental motets with modern pieces by Caroline Shaw and Kaija Saariaho. Bach’s motets have always been very popular. While a large portion of Bach’s oeuvre went unperformed for decades following his passing, his motets were a notable exception. These works have long been beloved for the solace and significance they offer during life’s pivotal moments of transition, including funerals.

Grete Pedersen complements the motets with Nuits, adieux, in which farewells and the transition from night to day take on a singing, breathing and whispering sound. In Caroline Shaw’s Entr’acte, transition has become an end in itself. Here, extraordinary musical passages playfully tumble over one another.
