Festivalcafé

In het Festivalcafé kun je altijd terecht voor een drankje. Maar dat niet alleen: voorafgaand aan én na afloop van de concerten in de Grote Zaal zijn er optredens in een ongedwongen en relaxte sfeer. Daarvoor werkt het MMF samen met partners Subbacultcha en Garage Noord. Op zoek naar een verrassende performance of een plek om te chillen? Het Festivalcafé op Foyerdeck 1.

Na het concert in de Grote Zaal maakt Aho Ssan zijn opwachting in het Festivalcafé. Deze geluidskunstenaar heeft een achtergrond in grafisch ontwerp en cinema, maar brak in 2015 met zijn innovatieve en bekroonde soundtrack bij de film Ingha Mago. Aho Ssan (artiestennaam van Désiré Niamké) creëert zijn eigen digitale instrumenten, zoals te horen op zijn debuut-lp Simulacrum (2020). Voor dit indringende, schurende werk combineerde hij zijn eigen ervaringen als zwarte man in Frankrijk met vleugjes Sun Ra en Afrofuturisme. De première tijdens Berlin Atonal 2019 maakte diepe indruk.

Digital jam with French Afrofuturist Aho Ssan

You are always welcome for a drink in the festival café. But that’s not all: before and after the concerts in the Grote Zaal, you are invited to enjoy performances in the café - in an informal, relaxed atmosphere. 

After the concert in the Grote Zaal, Aho Ssan makes his appearance in the festival café. This sound artist has a background in graphic design and cinema, but broke through in 2015 with his innovative and award-winning soundtrack to the film Ingha Mago. Aho Ssan (stage name of Désiré Niamké) creates his own digital instruments, as can be heard on his debut album Simulacrum (2020). For this gripping, abrasive work, he combined his own experiences as a black man in France with touches of Sun Ra and Afrofuturism. The premiere at Berlin Atonal 2019 deeply impressed the audience.
