Arabic spiritual songs as a tribute to diva Umm Kulthum

The Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra celebrates the legacy of Umm Kulthum, an icon of Arab culture, with a triptych that illuminates different aspects of the Egyptian singer. In the wake of Eid-al-Fitr (Sugar Feast), it’s a perfect time to delve into her spiritual side. Like no other, Umm Kulthum was able to connect deeply with the audience through her voice.

Umm Kulthum’s journey took her from a child prodigy growing up in poverty, to the heights of global stardom. The daughter of an imam, Umm Kulthum’s early repertoire was primarily spiritual in nature. The Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra, together with international guest musicians, delves into this interesting history. The orchestra has been captivating new audiences with rich musical traditions for ten years.
