The innovative power of visionary French Baroque composers

This concert has been cancelled by Orkest van de Achttiende Eeuw due to unforseen circumstances.

With French Chaos, the Orkest van de Achttiende Eeuw (Orchestra of the 18th century) returns to the French Baroque roots that brought it global acclaim over forty years ago under founder Frans Brüggen. Now, more than a decade after his passing, the Orchestra, led by violinist Emmanuel Resche-Caserta, pays tribute to French Baroque music about chaos and the four elements: air, water, fire and earth.

Creating order out of chaos was a recurring theme in French Rationalism during the Enlightenment and served as a source of inspiration for a new way of composing music. In collaboration with the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles, the Orkest van de Achttiende Eeuw celebrates the innovative power of lesser-known but visionary French composers. Soprano Emmanuelle de Negri soloes in a cantata on the sun’s triumph over the clouds: light prevailing over darkness.
