Expressive arias and intimate songs by Purcell and Handel

While it’s interesting trivia that the Polish countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński is a talented breakdancer and sought-after model, it is his ‘supple, glowing voice’ (as Gramophone put it) that has truly propelled his rise to fame in recent years. His debut in the Great Singers series, alongside his fellow countryman Michał Biel, will showcase expressive arias and intimate songs by Purcell and Handel. ‘Orliński and Biel make vibrant and exciting music, but they make great art from it, too’, in the words of OperaToday.

In this programme, Orliński combines a selection from his most recent album If music… with songs by two Polish composers, Mieczysław Karłowicz and Tadeusz Baird. In doing so, he links the intimate baroque sound world of Purcell and Handel with Polish late‑romantic and twentieth‑century expression, forging a personal bridge between repertoire and heritage.
