The Cello Biennale Amsterdam and the Ud Festival are teaming up for a special programme centred on two extraordinary musicians who masterfully bridge Arabic and Western traditions. Moroccan-Canadian cellist Anwar Saidi is among the few artists equally at home in both Arabic modal systems and the Western classical tradition. The musicians of the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra, together with cellist Saidi and an oud player*, present a programme of new compositions and contemporary interpretations of traditional music.
* Nazih Borish is listed in the brochure of the Cello Biënnale Amsterdam. This world‑renowned oud player passed away unexpectedly due to cardiac arrest. As soon as his replacement is confirmed, this will be announced on this website.
