Dekmantel Festival aan ‘t IJ

Muzikant upsammy en multidisciplinair kunstenaar Sjoerd Martens creëren een eigen wereld. Het resultaat van hun samenwerking is zowel transcendentaal als diep geworteld in de aarde. Een ruimte waar betonnen constructies via gemanipuleerde beelden en geluiden lijken te versmelten met de woest groeiende natuur. Unheimische ritmes, heldere texturen, glitches, druppelend water en griezelige melodieën - hun audiovisuele show prikkelt de verbeelding en houdt rekening met alle zintuigen.

Gaussian Curve
Zet de Italiaanse componist Gigi Masin, de Schotse muzikant Johnny Nash en de Nederlandse Marco Sterk (alias Young Marco) bij elkaar in een studio, en de meest dromerige soundscapes vloeien eruit. Een spontane avond samen jammen en verkennen in 2014 leidde ertoe dat de drie de ambientgroep Gaussian Curve vormden. De twee albums van de groep, Clouds (2014) en The Distance (2017), uitgebracht op Music from Memory waren het uitmuntende product van Masins toetsenwerk, Nash' gitaarlijnen en Sterks ritme en technische productie. Het eerste concert van Gaussian Curve in jaren zorgt voor pure zaligheid als opening van Dekmantel Festival 2022.

Mary Lattimore & Neil Halstead
In het hemelse harpistenrijk is Mary Lattimore een soort avant-garde icoon. De in LA woonachtige muzikante/componiste is klassiek geschoold, maar verwierf wereldwijde bekendheid door haar experimentele, bezinnende benadering van haar instrument. Op Silver Ladders, haar meest recente LP op Ghostly, breidt de artieste haar stijl van instrumentale storytelling uit met hulp van producer en gitarist Neil Halstead (Slowdive, Mojave 3). Opgenomen in Halsteads studio in de buurt van een Engelse surfstadje net voor de lockdown, weerspiegelt Silver Ladders Lattimores levendige herinneringen tegen de achtergrond van de sombere, glinsterende oceaan.

Gaussian Curve
Put Italian composer Gigi Masin, Scottish musician Johnny Nash, and Dutch Marco Sterk (aka Young Marco) in a studio together, and the dreamiest soundscapes flow out. A spontaneous night of jamming and exploring together in 2014 led to the three of them forming ambient group Gaussian Curve. The group’s two albums, Clouds (2014) and The Distance (2017), released on Music from Memory were the outstanding product of Masin’s keywork, Nash’s guitar lines, and Sterk’s rhythm and technical production. Gaussian Curve’s first concert in years will be a Dekmantel Festival 2022 opening of pure bliss.

In the celestial realm of harpists, Mary Lattimore is somewhat of an avant-garde icon. The LA-based musician/composer was classically trained, but gained worldwide critical acclaim through her experimental, pensive approach to her instrument. On Silver Ladders, her most recent LP on Ghostly, the artist expands her style of instrumental storytelling with the help of producer and guitarist Neil Halstead (Slowdive, Mojave 3). Recorded in Halstead’s studio near an old English surftown just before lockdown, Silver Ladders reflects Lattimore’s vivid memories against the gloom and glimmer of the ocean.
