A journey through polyphony, the audience picking their own spot

No chairs, no benches. The singers move through the space, each time choosing a different spot. As an audience member, you decide where and how you listen: lying among the singers, with your eyes closed, or looking over the conductor’s shoulder. When the singers begin, the lights go out. Only the illuminated scores offer a sense of direction.

Renaissance music plays with space. Whether it be the reverberating polyphonic sounds or the question-and-answer interaction between two choirs as first explored by Gabrieli in the San Marco in Venice. Paul Van Nevel will take you on a journey through that dance of space and time.
