Listening, tasting, and immersing oneself in a living musical culture

For one evening, Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ will be filled with the sounds, rhythms, and stories of India. This festival brings together classical music, dance, and ritual in a vibrant journey of discovery throughout the entire building. Singer Parvathy Baul presents the mystical Baul tradition from West Bengal, followed by an exceptional and rare interplay of sarangi (literally “a hundred colors”), shehnai, and tabla. The evening concludes with the virtuoso duo Mysore Brothers, leading figures of the Carnatic violin tradition, accompanied by mridangam and ghatam.

In the lead-up to the evening concert, you can take part in yoga, enjoy classical Indian dance, and explore classical Indian music during a lecture-demonstration. An informal festival atmosphere fills the foyer, with Indian street food, instrument demonstrations, literature, and stalls. A festival to listen, to taste, and to be carried away by a living musical culture.
