An energetic morning with a fiery, colourful castanet performance

The final day of the Ragged Music Festival begins with a morning concert full of energy. The percussion of the HIIIT ensemble drivesMaurice Ravel’s Spanish-flavored rhapsody, with castanets igniting the two pianos. The swelling waves that sweep listeners along in Philip Glass' minimalist classic Mad Rush are also exhilarating. And Steve Reich’s Clapping Music, with its sharp, hand-clapped rhythms, is in the capable hands of the HIIIT percussionists and Rosas dancers.

Classical balance prevails in Mozart’s sunny Sonata for two pianos in D, a tonality he associated with the warmth of summer. Violinist Alina Ibragimova performs a set of variations by Olivier Messiaen in which his ideas about the blending of colour and harmony sound so powerful that you can almost experience the music as colour – the way Messiaen heard all music.

Video-installation / Kleine Zaal (free walk-in)
Throughout the weekend in the Kleine Zaal during the Ragged Music Festival, a video featuring and by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker will be shown, in which she performs Sola, a solo based on the original dress from Violin Phase (1982) and a core vocabulary of steps, turns, and jumps, set to Franz Schubert’s Fantasie in F minor, D.940, performed by Pavel Kolesnikov and Samson Tsoy.
