Muziekgebouw aan de Ring is de gezamenlijke concertserie van The Rest is Noise en De School waar we belangwekkende eigentijdse artiesten presenteren. Tijdens Amsterdam Dance Event staat twee indrukwekkende live artiesten op het programma: synthesist Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith en experimenteel zangeres en improvisator BEA1991.
Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith
Als vooraanstaand hedendaagse componist en geluidsingenieur tovert Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith wonderlijke esoterische klankwerelden uit haar Buchla modulaire synthesizer. Geïnspireerd door de sereniteit en vitaliteit van haar thuisbasis Orcas Island in het noordwesten van de Verenigde Staten, boetseert ze gewichtloze muziek. Met haar intuïtieve composities vol verwondering treedt zij in de voetsporen van vroege elektronicapioniers zoals Laurie Spiegel en Suzanne Ciani.
BEA1991
BEA1991’s nevelige elektronische composities staan minstens op gelijke hoogte als die van Kaityln Aurelia Smith. Met haar lichte, directe toon creëert zij een geheel eigen esthetiek en podiumpersoonlijkheid. Voor dit optreden neemt de Amsterdamse artiest afstand van de traditionele bandopstelling en ontwikkelt ze een solo-performance: een unieke collage van samplers, vinyl en zang resulterend in een nevelig muzikaal panorama.

We celebrate our ADE instalment by inviting two of the most exciting live artists of our generation: synthesist Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith and local experimentalist / improviser BEA1991.
Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith
Esteemed contemporary composer and sound engineer, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, creates the softest sounds from the esoteric Buchla modular synthesiser. Inspired by the serenity and vitality of her Orca Islands hometown, her weightless music is sculpted from visual imaginations and realised as hyperreal sonic puzzles of synthetic sounds and melodic pulses. She follows in the footsteps of early electronic pioneers like Laurie Spiegel and Suzanne Ciani, with her visceral compositions which emulate a sense of wonderment and energy for a world of sound.
BEA1991
It’s with equal craft that Dutch artist, BEA1991, composes her misty electronic compositions. Her wispy vocals and deadpan tone have developed a distinct aesthetic and intuitive quality to her stage presence. For this performance BEA is moving further away from the traditional band set up and developing her solo performance; a unique collage of samplers, vinyl and vocals patchworked into hazy soundscapes.
All music before, between and after the shows will be chosen and played by Oceanic.
